Work in Progress

We have two transcripts which were painstakingly produced by Barry Chinchen in October 1975 and have since (very recently) been scanned into the Vicar's computer.

The copies at the Vicarage are indeed 'copies' rather than 'originals' and are in the typescript of a mid 1970's (probably manual) typewriter. They are viewable here in their current unfinished and unchecked state - Transcript 1 - Transcript 2

Transcript 1 contains:

  • Baptisms (Christenings) 1681-1812

  • Marriages 1687 - 1752

  • Burials 1671 - 1812

Transcript 2 contains

  • Baptisms (Christenings) 1709 - 1752

  • Marriages 1692 - 1747

  • Burials 1709 - 1776

The above 3 sections were recorded in St. Mary's (in the city) but relate to St. Mary Extra because of a row over fees..... some things never change!

Transcript 2 also contains

  • Baptisms (Christenings) 1813 - 1837

  • Burials 1813 - 1837

  • Together with 'Information' recorded in the Parish Register of St. Mary's Church Southampton relating to Jesus Chapel St. Mary Extra (Pear Tree)

The information in these transcripts has been scanned in but not proof-read and it will take a great deal of work to do this (volunteer anyone?)

We have included them on the site in this unfinished condition as some of the scanning has been very good indeed - anyway - they are in Microsoft Word (.doc) format and if you want to do a search simply open them up and do a 'find' in them. We don't however guarantee any accuracy in their unfinished state. Have fun though!

These transcripts may not be reproduced or published in any way without the permission of the Parochial Church Council of The Jesus Chapel, St. Mary Extra (Pear Tree Church) Southampton - please only use for private 'family' searches.
